Minutes of the September 9, 2006 meeting of the Weld Amateur Radio Society
- Meeting called to order by Rob, KA0VNB at 9:06 AM
- Minutes from last meeting approved.
- Berry, N0OYM provided the treasury’s report
- Berry, N0OYM and Mike, KC0FNE provided a report of the repeaters:
- Backup repeater on air while Stan, K0KZA has new repeater for tuning.
- Mike and Berry checked the repeater for noise and fixed the issue by tuning the loading capacitor. Says that there was a high SWR reading from the antenna which they are currently diagnosing.
- IRLP Node functional on old repeater.
- Discussed having professional climb tower at repeater site to check cables, antennas, and guide wires. Had contact information for someone who would do the maintenance for $65 per hour. Mike, KC0FNE motioned to have tower checked/maintained. Motion approved.
- Discussed pros and cons of renting Post Office Box for Club’s new business address. Bill, W0AVH motioned that the club rent a PO Box. Motioned approved. Will use the Post Office on 10th St and 39th Ave.
- Location for new antennas- Red Cross building.
- J poles on side of building with coax for satellite
- Antennas on old building in side room cabinet
- Ham Fest on September 24-discussed having table where the club could sell leftover power supplies and other equipment
- Mike, KC0FNE and Cliff, W0ITD talked to some schools in the area
- 3 or 4 schools expressed interest in looking at the Comm trailer
- Call for volunteers
- Mike, KC0FNE expressed interest in having NASA do a communication between the schools and the International Space Station.
- Also discussed having kids do building projects
- Cliff, W0ITD discussed giving kids QST magazines to read
- Dave, W0EDW- mentioned that hard to find parts can be found at a place called RF Parts
- Berry, N0OYM-received email from Wayne Nelson N0ZOA requesting that the meeting minutes and list of members (including names, call signs and phone numbers) be listed on the WARS website. He also asked if the club had considered a 6M repeater as the ones in Denver are frequently not working. He also expressed the opinion that the meetings were held too early.
- Discussed listing the club officers on the website, concerns were raised about the privacy of members’ information.
- Agreed that it would list names and call signs on members on website.
- It was discussed that the issues with the 2M repeater should be fixed before considering a 6M repeater.
- Peter, N7TDJ mentioned that the state has a person who is active in EOC- Hams are learning to use the state’s equipment
- Meeting adjourned at 9:53AM.
